BREATH, BANDHAS & PRANAYAMA: EXPLORING THE MANTRA OF UJJAYI & THE MYSTICAL ENERGY OF BANDHAS
SATURDAY 29TH NOVEMBER
4.00PM – 5.30PM
£45
In Sanskrit, Man means Mind, and Tra means to Free or Deliver. Therefore, the word Mantra means to free the mind. There are many mantras in yoga, such as Om, Hare Krishna, Om Namo Shivaya, and others. In Ashtanga Yoga, the mantra is the sound of our breath: Ujjayi. No sound is more universal than breath. It is not tied to any language or culture and is “chanted” from the moment of birth. This class will focus on the Ujjayi mantra within asana practice as well as during pranayama. Besides breath work, the class will also explore the unseen world of Bandhas. We will work to gain a deeper understanding of these subtle yet powerful tools through interactive discussions and practical exercises.
Open to all levels. -

SUNDAY 30TH NOVEMBER
11.30AM – 2.00PM
£55
Whether standing on our feet, hands, head, or any other body part, balance can be one of the most challenging parts of practice. David will share his insights and methods for finding balance in an unstable world. The class will include partner work as well as individual attempts at balancing in various asanas. Interestingly, there are many parallels between the techniques used for physical balance in the body and those used to find equilibrium in our lives. No matter which yoga system one practices, there is sure to be a wealth of knowledge gained from this class that can be applied both on the mat and in life. Falling Is Optional!

SCORPIONS, PEACOCKS & INSECTS THAT FLY. OH MY!: EXPLORING THE ASANA JUNGLE & THE ANIMALS WITHIN
SUNDAY 30TH NOVEMBER
2.30PM – 4.30PM
£50
The first yogis observed nature to gain inspiration and insight into the development of asanas and the practice of yoga itself. There is a wonderful ‘zoological’ component to many asanas such as the Peacock, Scorpion, Frog, Crane, Dog, Flying Insect, Crocodile, Horse, and many more. In this class, David will present ways to approach these amazing creatures with care, wonder, and joy through partner work and individual flow. He is open to any suggestions of ‘animal’ postures that the participants may want to explore as well. This class is really fun and sure to put a smile on your face. Of course, if there are 'non-animal' asanas of interest, we can explore those as well :) The Wild and Wonderful Asana Animals are waiting for you!

ABOUT DAVID SWENSON
David Swenson began his journey of Yoga in 1969 when he and his brother Doug practised in a small park at the end of their street in Houston, Texas. There were few sources for yoga at that time so they practised from whatever books they could find.
In 1973 David discovered Ashtanga after he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, CA. In 1975 David and Nancy brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time and Swenson was fortunate enough to be there. He then initiated studies directly with the master. He made his first trip to Mysore in 1977.
David is one of only a handful of Westerners to have learned the full Ashtanga system including all of the asana sequences and pranayama as originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois.
Today David is recognised as one of the world's foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. He tirelessly travels year round to teach and offer workshops.
His courses are presented in a supportive and compassionate fashion making it accessible to all levels of practitioner to participate.
