ABOUT PILATES

WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise that improves posture as well as stability, flexibility, mobility, strength (particularly of the core) and muscular endurance. It's suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

At HOME, we offer three types of Pilates: Mat, Equipment Studio and Reformer. However you choose to practise, all our sessions provide individualised attention from an expert teacher to support you in reaching your goals – whether you're recovering from injury or seeking to enhance your performance as a dancer or athlete.

THE BENEFITS OF PILATES

Pilates has been shown to help with:
– overall and core strength
– muscular endurance
– flexibility
– posture
– range of motion
– stress relief
– increasing your sense of wellbeing
– maintaining and increasing bone density
– improving cardiovascular health and efficiency
– injury prevention and rehabilitation
– reducing pain and improving stability, control, proprioception and strength in those with Hypermobility
– strengthening the pelvic floor muscles
– postnatal wellness

ABOUT MAT PILATES

Mat Pilates uses body weight as resistance to strengthen and sculpt the muscles of your entire body, including your legs, arms and core. These classes are held in our regular yoga studios, and all you need is a mat (you can bring your own or hire one). Our highly experienced teachers are expert at suggesting modifications to suit all levels.

ABOUT EQUIPMENT STUDIO PILATES

Equipment Pilates takes place in our dedicated, state-of-the-art studio, either in small groups or one-to-one sessions. Perfect for rehabilitation, performance and precision training, this form uses specialised apparatus, from smaller pieces such as resistance bands to larger equipment such as the Pilates Reformer, Wundachair, Pedipole and Cadillac. In order to start Equipment Pilates, please book a Starter Assessment here or by calling us on 020 4553 3344. The Starter Assessment enables your teacher to work with you to create a bespoke programme tailored to your individual needs and goals.

ABOUT REFORMER PILATES

The Pilates Reformer uses sprung tension to create internal pressure, helping to elongate the spine, promote range of motion in the joints and strengthen muscles. This leads to greater flexibility, strength, stamina and a more balanced posture. AT HOME, we limit our Reformer classes to a maximum of 8 students to ensure you receive personalised support and guidance. (Reformer Pilates can also be practised one-to-one within the Equipment Studio). We offer three types of Reformer Pilates classes: Foundation, Signature and Dynamic (with Pre & Postnatal and Recovery classes coming soon) – read more about these different styles below.
